The theme of
the present issue is "Oz / O Sonho". This issue is like two
magazines in one: the internal leaves fold out large
"poster-like" magazine with the backside having text
written at 180 degrees. The backside is Egoista's
homage to the
"Wizard of Oz" turning 70 years-old. There is a story of
Oz-inspired color-photographs by Annie Leibovitz starring
Keira Knightly as "Dorothy", and stills from the film
"Wizard of Oz" (1939) with bizarre and inventive
Technicolor treatment. There are essays in this section on
the topic of "Oz" by Ana Sousa Dias, Pedro Mexia, João
Lopes, José Fialho Gouveia and poetry by Fernando Pessoa
(with English translation). The "Sonho" section of this
issue begins with several brilliant and exciting color
photographs of a current show at the Casino Estoril
("Visions: o espírito dos sonhos"). The essays/prose in
this section on the topic of "Dreams" are by Inês Pedrosa,
Renato Solnado, Margarida Pinto Correia, and Filipa Leal.
This section also contains a beautiful array of abstract
color photographs by Ana Calhau and photographs of abstract
paintings by Pedro Chorão.

contribution is a vibrant exhibition of David LaChapelle
photographs featuring Madonna, Jeff Koons, Uma Thurman,
Naomi Campbell, and Paris Hilton, among others. The rest of
the magazine contains texts on the theme of genius written
by António Mega Ferreira, Rui Zink, Maria Filomena Molder;
an interview with the surrealist poet and painter, and
friend of Mário Cesariny, Artur Cruzeiro Seixas; an
interesting section by Margarida Magalhães Ramos giving a
short biography and quotations of various "genius" figures
of the 20th century including: Albert Einstein, Federico
Fellini, Marie Curie, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Stephen
Hawking, and Walt Disney; a humorous fictional piece by
Hugo Gonçalves with characters named Luiz de Camões, Sancho
Pança and Susy (an ex-stripper).

the present issue is "Crise de bolso" [i.e. crisis in the
pocket, or lack of money], while the number, instead of the
usual large 4° (29 x 23 cm.), is the size of a "livro de
bolso" [i.e. a pocket book]. It begins with an editorial by
the editor on the "Crise de bolso", followed by texts by
Aníbal Cavaco e Silva ("Futuro de Portugal"), António
Barreto ("A crise acabou"), Eduardo Lourenço ("A sopa dos
ricos"), Nicolau Santos ("Não vamos falar dela"), Nuno
Artur Silva ("Como literaturavenceu a crise"), Miguel
Carvalho ("Crise do futuro"), and more. There is also art
by João Vaz de Carvalho and Rodrigo Prazeres Saias, as well
as photographs by Pedro Cláudio and Cláudio Garrido. The
present issue does not contain advertising; it seems to
have been supported to the AMI (Association of Medical
Ilustrators), which in turn appeals for help from the
reader [in effect an advertisement?].
