Catalogue of the Egyptian art held at the Gulbenkian Museum. In addition to being a very comprehensive and sophisticated review, there are also four inspiring essays titled, "The History of Ancient Egypt," "The Art of Ancient Egypt," and "The Egyptian Collection". Each object in the Collection is described in detail, complete with vibrant photographs, commentary and list of where it has been on exhibition. There are many hieroglyphic inscriptions from the pieces that are reproduced in the respective commentary with translations. Texts are written by Prof. Luís Manuel de Araújo, one of the leading Portuguese Egyptologists, who has published many books in Portugal on the topic of Ancient Egypt.

The guide is divided into sixteen sections by regions and types: Egyptian Art, Greco-Roman Art, Mesopotamian art, etc. The texts for each section were composed by the curators responsible, respectively. Beautifully produced bilingual exhibition catalogue, from exhibition held at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum 15 June – 26 August 2007. This exhibition catalogue is the fruit of a collaboration between the Sakip Sabanci Museum and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. The exhibition brought together principally Turkish landscape paintings, as well as offering a brief encounter between Turkish and Portuguese contemporary painters. The exhibition catalogue gives an intriguing comparative study of the art from these two cultures. Included are biographies of the featured artists.

Spectacular catalogue of Italian and French medals and plaquettes fund in the Calouste Gulbenkian Collection. There are also two essays introducing the sections on Italian Renaissance medals and French Medals and plaquettes from the 19th and 20th centuries. Each medal and plaquette is represented with crisp photograph reproductions along with drawings or paintings relevant to the subject. Most impressive are the detailed commentaries, for each piece, that include full descriptions of inscriptions, bibliographies and variants of the piece.

Important work of synthesis incorporating much of the author's own original research. First published 1974; a second, revised edition appeared in 1985; the third edition was published in 1991. The first three editions were all published by Bertrand. José-Augusto França is one of Portugal's leading art and cultural historians, as well as being an important critic, literary figure, author of fiction, and intellectual. He was a leader in the introduction of surrealism to Portugal. The Pavilhão de Segurança of the Hospital Miguel Bombarda, completed in 1896 for the central psychiatric hospital of Lisbon, was designed by the architect and book collector José Maria Nepocuceno. Its utilizes ideas of Miguel Bombarda, exponent of "function creates form", and is said to be one of the few world-class circular "panóptico" buildings. The tiles are especially striking.

Exhibition is divided into four sections: 6th Millennium BC – 3rd century AD [Greek and Roman period]; 4th Century – 15th Century [Byzantine Period]; 15th Century – 18th Century [Post-Byzantine Period]; 19th century [Neohellenic Period]. The catalogue includes essays by Dimitris Arvanitakis, Anna Ballian, Anastasia Drandaki, Irini Papageorgiou and Kate Synodinou. Essay topics are generally on crucial historical aspects of each section, as well as insights on culture and religion.

Saramago contributes a single page of text. Most of the volume consists of reproductions of art referring to Saramago by Agostinho Santos. The exhibition, of more than 180 works, opened at the Museu Nacional da Imprensa, Porto, in December of 2006. Agostinho Santos, born in Vila Nova da Gaia, 1960, has been awarded a number of artistic prizes. Over more than 20 years he has had numerous individual exhibitions, as well as taking part in group and collective exhibitions. He work is represented in public collections both in Portugal and Brazil, as well as at the Portuguese consulate in Goa.

Second edition (volumes I and II are from the third edition, which is a reprint of the second), revised and augmented. Out–of–print for several years. This fundamental work on Portuguese artists and painters originally appeared in 4 volumes, and included only artists active up to the 1950s. Aside from the addition of more recent artists, Pamplona has added numerous color plates and expanded and corrected the earlier entries, which include biographical information, a critical evaluation (with substantial quotes from art critics), lists of awards and exhibitions, bibliography, and lists of places where the artist's work is exhibited. Volumes I and II say "3ª edição" on the title pages—they were printed in 1991, and are exact reprints of the corresponding volumes from the second edition, which appeared in 1987. Volumes III, IV and V are from the second edition—they were printed in 1988.

This weighty exhibition catalogue includes introductory essays by Serrão, "Entre a Maneira moderna e a ideia de Decoro: bravura e conformismo na pintura do maneirismo português" (pp. 16–57); Deswarte, "Francisco de Holanda: maneira e idea" (pp. 58–89); Annemarie Jordan, "O Maneirismo e o retrato da corte em Portugal" (pp. 114–21); and Pedro Dias, "As outras imagens: o maneirismo na escultura portuguesa" (pp. 134–63). The actual catalogue, which occupies pp. 174–457, has six sections: I. "Do Renascimento ao Maneirismo . . . 1535–1560"; II. "A rebelião de Campelo. . . 1560–1580"; III. "A contra–reforma militante e o decoro . . . 1580–1620"; IV. "O retrato áulico e burgués"; V. "O desenho maneirista e a iluminação de livros"; and VI. "O azulejo." Cataloguing of individual items was done mostly by Serrão, Deswarte, Caetano, Jordan, Dias, and José Alberto Seabra Carvalho. There is a useful section with biographies of artists (pp. 458–99), followed by a bibliography (pp. 500–11).
