Full-color facsimile of an important manuscript of the best known of D. João de Castro’s works: in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it was circulating in English, Latin, Dutch and French translations. This particular manuscript was in the hands of Sir Walter Raleigh by 1618. The introduction describes other known copies of the manuscript and lists the sites shown in the Roteiro. It is followed (pp. 7-91) by a transcription of D. João’s text.

Full-color facsimile of the original manuscript in the Biblioteca da Ajuda. In addition to the lovely large folding facsimile map, the manuscript contains 11 maps and plans in its text, some full-page, all in color. The date of the original manuscript is ca. 1582-5. It is attributed to the Portuguese cartographer Luís Teixeira.
