Originally
published in Lisbon, 1788, this is one of the few original
early Portuguese works on cookery. It is the first
Portuguese book devoted entirely to pastries, sweets, fruit
preserves and the like, and only the third original work on
any form of cookery to appear in Portugal: it was preceded
by the more general works of Rodrigues and Rigaud. On the
1788 edition, see Innocêncio VIII, 331: noting that he had
seen only 2 or 3 copies, and thinking that few knew of it.
