The author, a former air force lieutenant-colonel, was born in Algés, 1953. At the time this book appeared he was working as a pilot for an air charter company.

This book combines observations on the Angolan civil war with travel narrative and reports on florae and fauna. The publisher's representative insists that while this text was translated from the Hebrew, it was never published in any language other than Portuguese. Tamar Golan was the first Israeli ambassador to Angola; she served from 1995 to 2001. She holds a doctorate in Political Science and Administration from Columbia University, with a specialization in African affairs. At the time this book appeared she was responsible for African Studies at Ben Gurion University in the Neguev, Israel. Tamar Ron is a specialist in the conservation of biodiversity, with a master's degree in Environmental Biology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She holds a doctoral degree in Zoology from the University of Natal, South Africa. From 2000 to 2004 she served as a consultant to the Angolan government on conservation of biodiversity. Her skills as a photographer are first rate.
