First published 2002. The present edition is not identical to the one published in 2002. That edition contained only 315 pp., and had a different ISBN. However, the publisher makes no statement about the difference between the two editions, and we do not have the previous edition to compare with the present one. The physician Lobo Antunes, born in Lisbon, 1942, is considered by some to be Portugal's greatest living writer of fiction.
