She was born in Lisbon in 1956, and holds a Ph.D. in North American literature, having written her thesis on Emily Dickinson.

Dádiva was first published in 1949. It appeared again as Diário íntimo; Dádiva e outros poemas in 1975. The preface to the current edition was written in 2001; a note by the author is dated September 2005. The author's illustrated volume of poems, O som do vermelho: tríptico poético sobre pintura de Rogério Ribeiro (2003) was awarded the Grande Prémio APE 2004. Born in Porto in 1953, Baptista has published at least 16 volumes of poetry; he has also contributed to and co-edited Poesia digital: 7 poetas dos anos 80 (2002), in addition to having edited two other anthologies of poems. His unpublished "O claro interior" received the Prémio de Poesia e Ficção de Almada, 2000 (Poesia). Poems by Amadeu Baptista have been translated into Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian, English, Romanian, Dutch, and Hebrew.

First published 1986 by Morais Editores in the famous Círculo de Poesia series. The author, born in 1959 and residing in Porto when this volume appeared, has published several volumes of literary history and criticism, including Fenomenologia do discurso poético: ensaio sobre Jorge de Sena, and O arco-íris da poesia: Ekphrasis em Albano Martins. He has also published at least five volumes of poetry, and editied a facsimile edition of the poetical review Arvore.

Awarded the Prémio Daniel Faria, 2005. The author, born in Porto, 1972, studied law at Coimbra and worked six years as a lawyer, both in Lisbon and in London. He completed a master's degree in Public Health at Leeds. This appears to be his first book.

Born Cabezón de la Sal, Santander, Spain in 1929, his father Portuguese, mother Spanish, the author has lived in Spain, Portugal, France and Algeria (arriving in Portugal from Spain at age two; returning to Spain to study, returning to Portugal in 1953, then going into exile in 1961). He has produced several prize-winning poetical works: Figuras (1987), was awarded the Prémio Inasset/Poesia; Sobre os mortos (1991), won the Grande Prémio de Poesia, APE. He has published at least 17 previous volumes of poetry, beginning in 1956, and also received the Prémio de Poesia do Pen Club for Introdução à filosofia (1981). The author's A chave dos sonhos (1999), was awarded the Prémio Revelação APE / IPLB, 1996, for Literatura para a Infância e a Juventude. The author's play, Estrela da manhã (2002), was awarded the Prémio Novas Dramaturgia 2001, by Dramat, Centro de Dramaturgias Contemporâneas do Teatro Nacional São José. Born in 1946 in the "Condado Portocalense," the author has had published at least three previous volumes of poetry, as well as another book for children. Another play, De rastos, awarded the Grande Prémio de Teatro by the Associação Portuguesa de Autores, and a collection of short stories were said to be in the press.

Manuel de Freitas, born 1972, is a published literary critic and art historian. He has published a brief essay about the poetry of Al Berto, A noite dos espelhos (1999), Uma espécie de crime: apresentação do rosto de Herberto Helder (2001), as well as at least thirteen volumes of his own poetry. He edited at least one anthology of poems by other contemporary authors. According to a friend whose opinion we respect, Manuel de Freitas is the best twenty-first-century Portuguese poet!

The author has resided in the United States since 2000. She received a doctorate in Hispanic Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. At the time this volume appeared she was teaching at the University of Miami. Author and editor of various publications in Portugal, the United States and Brazil, she has exhibited paintings at the Museum of Modern Art at Miami University, and at the Augusta Savage Gallery in Amherst.

The author, poet, and literary critic was born in Porto in 1965. He has published at least seven volumes of poetry, a novella, and edited two anthologies. A regular contributor to the newspaper Público, he has written for a number of Portuguese and foreign literary reviews as well.

This appears to be the author's first published volume of poetry, and his second book. He published Uma visita a Bosch (2003), a "romance" loosely based on Bosch's painting of The Last Judgment, which was his first work of longer fiction, and probably his first book. Born in Lisbon in 1969, a journalist since 1994, he worked for the weekly newspaper Semanário; in 1998 he moved to the magazine Arte ibérica, where he became editor-in-chief in 1999. That year he assumed the same function at the Agenda cultural de Lisboa. When this book appeared he was directing the review Magazine artes. His poetry appeared in the Diário de notícias Jovem, and he has written short stories for various publications, as well as for the Internet.

The author, born in Santo Tirso, 1945, has taught secondary school. He has published at least four previous volumes of poetry, and collaborated in the poetical anthology A Ilha dos Amores (1984). His work has received favorable comments from Eugénio de Andrade, Luiz Fagundes Duarte, João Rui de Sousa, Fernando Guimarães, Jorge Listopad and Mário Cláudio.

Born in Porto in 1937, the poet, essayist, performer, and university professor Alberto Pimenta has collaborated in various German, Italian, and Portuguese literary reviews. He has been an important vanguard figure in Portuguese literature. This author has published at least three previous volumes of poetry, an essay on Natercia Freire (2000), and another volume of essays (2003). Another tidbit of information we could glean about him (from the inside flap of the front wrapper of another book) was that he was born on Easter 1977, and "ainda não ressuscitou." The inside flap of the front wrapper of the present volume states that he is "sexualmente interessado em Deus."
