The author, born in 1954, is a distinguished art historian and critic. At the time this volume appeared he was professor of the history and theory of art at the Faculdade de Belas Artes, Porto. He has published over 20 books, mostly of art history and criticism, but including at least three books for children and seven volumes of poetry.

Pages [115]-40 consist of a substantial "Posfácio" by Abel Barros Baptista followed by bio-bibliographical notes about the work and its author.

The author was born in Cumieira, Penela in 1936. He has previously published seven volumes of poetry (one of which went to a third edition), three of fiction, two more combining poetry and prose, as well as thirteen other volumes on diverse subjects such as essays, literary history and criticism, the future of the national health service, and an introduction to freemasonry. A lawyer, he was one of the founders of the Portuguese Socialist Party. For the period 2002-2005 he was elected Grand Master of the Grande Oriente Lusitano, the most influencial lodge of Portuguese freemasonry. Awarded the Prémio D. Dinis by the Casa de Mateus and the Pen Clube, this volume contains almost all of the author's poetry, including some poems previously unpublished. His Antologia da poesia espanhola contemporânea won the Pen Clube's Prémio de Tradução. This author of fiction and poetry, born near Obidos, 1938, has been awarded several literary prizes. He worked as a lawyer for a brief time, then opted for journalism. His work has been translated into Spanish, Italian, French, English, German, Dutch, Swedish, Russian, and Latvian. He has translated into Portuguese, among others, Stéphane Mallarmé, Marguerite Duras, Samuel Beckett, Aimé Césaire, and Andrei Voznessenski. The author was born in Ericeira in 1972. An organist who has given various recitals, he was teaching music at the Academia de Música de Santa Cecília when this volume appeared. He has published articles on musicology, and a monograph on ethnomusicology about the traditional music of Guiné. This volume of verse appears to be his first literary work in book form.

The auther passed briefly through the military, Coimbra University, and the prison of the Inquisition, appeared in an Auto-de-fé in Lisbon in 1778, leading a reclusive life in a small cell of an Oratorian monestary. Rehabilitated shortly before he died, he was given a teaching position at the Casa Pia. He never left Portugal, but both as a poet and mathematician lived a intellectual life outside the country and time. His poetry, copied by friends and suspect by the Inquisition, was not published in his lifetime. The present volume includes both prose and poetry. The author, at the time this volume appeared, was juíza desembargadora and President of the Comissão Nacional para os Direitos Humanos e a Cidadania de Cabo Verde. She has worked for a number of years in the field of human rights. In the literary field, she was awarded the Prémio Tchicay u Tam'si for African poetry in 2001 for her total output of poetry, and the Prémio Sonangol de Literatura in 2003 for her novel A candidata.

The author was born in Luanda, 1960. A journalist since 1977, he has worked for the Diário de notícias and Seara Nova. Co-founder of the Brigada Jovem de Literatura de Luanda, he has held the position of Assessor de Imprensa for the Presidency of the Republic of Angola. He has published at least eight volumes of poetry, and one volume of essays. His work has won various literary awards.

The author was born in Inhambane, Mozambique in 1964. He was a founding member and editor of the "caderno literário" Xiphefo. His first book, a volume of poetry, O agora e o depois da coisas, appeared in 1990. In 2000 he published Da vontade e de partir, which was awarded the Prémio Fundação Rui de Noronha, Revelação for 1999, and Rescaldo, awarded the Primeiro Prémio de Poesia TDM-Telecomunicações de Moçambique for 2001. His poems are represented in several anthologies.

He has also published at least 7 volumes of essays on art and at least 7 previous volumes of fiction. Born in Santana, on the Island of São Tomé, 1961, [Maria da] Conceição [Costa de Deus] Lima studied journalism in Portugal. In 1993 in São Tomé and Príncipe she founded and edited the weekly independent newspaper O país hoje, now defunct. She studied at King's College, London, and worked for the BBC Portuguese services. Her poetry has appeared in newspapers, reviews, and anthologies in various countries. This appears to be her second book; her first was also a volume of poems.

Her work has been translated into Spanish, Italian, French, Dutch, and German. Her poems have appeared in several anthologies.

His first, published in the same collection by the same publisher, was Como o voo da garça (2002).

The preface occupies pp. [11]-23. Despite being in the series "Ficção Portuguesa" this book contains poetry, a few photographs, and an introductory essay about the photographs. The author's Osculatriz (1992) was awarded the Prémio ex aequo in fiction by the Pen Club of Portugal, 1992. His novella Grito (1997) was awarded the Grande Prémio de Romance e Novela APE, 1997. Awarded the Prémio Literário Florbela Espance 2001, Poesia. The author is said to have been born 53 years prior to the publication of this volume in the Concelho of Vila Viçosa. When this book appeared he was living in Evora. His poetry has been published previously by small presses. In 2003 he published two books on environmental education.
