Pedrosa, whose Crónica
feminina (2005) was
awarded the Prémio 2004 da Comissão para a Igualdade e para
os Direitos de Mulheres. She was born in Coimbra in 1962,
and has worked for O
Jornal,
O
Independente,
Expresso,
and Marie
Claire. Her first
novel, A Instrução
dos amantes (1992) achieved
a fifth edition (1998). Her second, Nas tuas
mãos (1997; 3rd ed.,
1998), was awarded the Prémio Máxima de Literatura. She has
also published volumes of poetry, short stories, and
essays, several of which have been "best sellers," and has
been represented in and edited anthologies.
Photographs
by Jorge Colombo (born New York, 1963), photographer,
illustrator and designer. Pedros and Colombo have been
friends for over 20 years, and have collaborated on other
projects. The photographs were taken in New York.

Colóquio was organized by the Goethe-Institut Lissabon, the
Institut Franco-Portugais, the Fundação Friedrich Ebert,
and the Organização Internacional para as Migrações.

de Cabo Verde, and Dialogue de l'Image. Texts by Ruiz-Rios,
Dornel, Thränhardt, Raouf Ressaissi, Catherine Wihtol de
Wenden (2), José Leitão, José Sánchez Otero, Leonie
Herwartz-Emden, Jean-Loouis Auduc, Teresa Seabra, Sudabeh
Mohafez, Zair Kedadouche, Carla Correia, Ângelo Furtado,
Blandine Kriegel, Rui Marques, Dorothea Grieger, Timóteo
Rodrigues Macedo, Vincent Geisser, Hajo Funke, Alexandra
Ventura Corceiro, Paulo Vieira, Elisabete Ramos, Amo
Ferhati, Karin Weiss, and Manuela Malheiro Ferreira. Themes
are second generation of immigrants, multiculturalism, the
role of the school in integration, national integration and
personal integrity, the politics of integration of the
second generation, racism and violence, self-mobilization
of the second generation, and culture as a factor in
integration. Some texts were translated from the German (by
Mosch Pinto, with revision by Tilo Wagner), and the French
(by the Alliance Française de Lisbonne and Rogélia
Neves).
