de Freitas, born 1972, is a published literary critic and
art historian. In 1999 he published A noite dos
espelhos , a brief essay
about the poetry of Al Berto, Uma espécie
de crime: apresentação do rosto de Herberto
Helder (2001), as well
as at least twelve volumes of his own poetry. According to
a friend whose opinion we respect, Manuel de Freitas is the
best twenty-first-century Portuguese
poet!

Poet,
literary historian and critic, Ana Mafalda Leite was born
in Portugal, arriving in Tete-Moatize, Moçambique when only
a few months old. She lived in Moçambique until she was 18,
beginning her university studies at the Universidade
Eduardo Mondlane. At the time this book appeared she was a
professor at the Universidade de Lisboa, specializing in
African literature. She has written several books of
literary history and criticism, focusing on Africa. This
appears to be her fourth book of poetry published over a
more than 20-year span.
