Important volume in this new multi-volume history. Besides the editors, the team that compiled this volume consisted of A.H. de Oliveira Marques, António Resende de Oliveira, Francisco Pato de Macedo, Hermenegildo Fernandes, Leontina Ventura, Maria Alegria Fernandes Marques, Maria José Azevedo Santos, Maria Rosa Ferreira Marreiros, Maria Teresa Nobre Veloso, and Saul António Gomes. The series, under the general direction of Joel Serrão and A. H. de Oliveira Marques, is now projected to 13 volumes. A substantial portion of the final volume is taken up with "The Translation of the Four Gospels into Persian" (pp. [7]-108), a heavily -annotated and most interesting contribution. The author makes good use of his knowledge of Middle Eastern languages.
