Manuel de Freitas, born 1972, is a published literary critic and art historian. He had published in 1999 A noite dos espelhos , a brief essay about the poetry of Al Berto, Uma espécie de crime: apresentação do rosto de Herberto Helder (2001), as well as at least eleven volumes of his own poetry. According to a friend whose opinion we respect, Manuel de Freitas is the best twenty-first-century Portuguese poet!

The author was born in Lourenço Marques, Moçambique, in 1933. He arrived in Portugal at age 3; at 20 he was a political prisoner for the first time, returning to prison twice more, serving a total of eight years. In 1967 he became part of the leadership of the Portuguese Communist Party. In 1975 he was elected to the Constitutional Assembly; from 1976 to 1991 he served as a deputy in the National Assembly. During these 15 years he was the President of the Grupo Parlamentar do PCP. In 1980 he was a candidate for President. From 1992 to 1998 he edited the newspaper Avante! He has previously published six books, including two volumes of poetry and one of memoirs. His novel, As páginas tantas, is said to be based on his personal experiences in political life from 1973 to 1989. The first edition appeared in October 2000; this second edition was published in November the same year.

The author was born in Lisbon, 1956. Poet, actor, stage manager and set designer, his first volume of poetry, Do lado de dentro was published by Editorial Presença in 1981. Since then he has published four additional books of poems, Empare(dar) (&etc., 1983), Dentada de pássaro, illustrated by Mário Bottas (self-published, 1985), Escombros (Editorial Caminho, 1993), and Cartas do soldado (self-published, 1996).

This appears to be his second book; his first was another book of poems in the same collection, Antigo e primeiro (sonetos) (2002).

The surrealist artist [Maria] Isabel [Sobral] Meyrelles was born in Matosinhos, 1929. She studied sculpture in Porto with Américo Gomes (1947-1949), and in Lisbon with António Duarte. Residing in Paris from 1950, she studied at the Université René Descartes, the Sorbonne and at the Ecole National Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. In 1952 she studied sculpture with Zadkine. Her literary activites have been extensive, as editor of a number of anthologies, and of the complete works of Artur do Cruzeiro Seixas. Moreover, she has translated Mário de Cesariny, Vitorino Nemésio, José Régio and Jorge Amado from Portuguese to French. Previously she has published four volumes of her own poetry. This appears to be her first published volume of poetry.
