Lusciously
illustrated volume, with a significant text. The book is
divided into two parts. The first part (pp.
[10]&endash;[115]) is subtitled "Puro sangue árabe:
cabalo dos deuses, deus dos cavalos, passado e presente."
This part was written, photographed, and iconographically
edited by Heleno. The second part (pp.
[116]&endash;[372]) is subtitled "Criadoes e
utilizadores do puro sangue árabe, por ordem alfabética."
It includes a map of Portugal showing the locations of
breeding farms, followed by photographs and essays about
the various breeders, including (in most cases) their
brands. The photographs for this part are by Francisco
Matias, Pedro Bettencourt and Pedro Ferreira. It was edited
by Pedro Castro Henriques. There is also a brief
biographical essay on Manuel H.D. Heleno, a bibliography
(pp. 370&endash;1), and colophon (p. [372]). The final
part of the book contains English translations of all the
texts.
