Awarded the Grande Prémio APE 2004. Poems in praise of three paintings by Rogério Ribeiro. The illustrations reproduce the paintings. The author, born in Porto in 1953, has published at least 15 volumes of poetry; he has also contributed to and co-edited Poesia digital: 7 poetas dos anos 80 (2002), in addition to having edited two other anthologies of poems. His unpublished "O claro interior" received the Prémio de Poesia e Ficção de Almada, 2000 (Poesia). Poems by Amadeu Baptista have been translated into Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian, English, Romanian, Dutch, and Hebrew.

The author's Poesia oculta (estudos sobre a moderna lírica portuguesa) was unanimously awarded the Prémio de Ensaio Literário (given by the Biblioteca Nacional, Lisbon) for 1992 by a jury consisting of Nuno Júdice, Diogo Pires Aurélio and Helena Carvalhão Buescu. His Eleonor na serra de Pascoaes was awarded the Prémio Revelação de Ensaio de 1989 by the Associação Portuguesa de Escritores - Instituto da Biblioteca Nacional e do Livro. He has written a number of volumes of poetry and criticism, and contributed to A planície e o abismo (Actas do Congresso sobre Florbela Espanca realizado na Universidade de Evora).

Previously unpublished poems. Awarded the Prémio de Poesia Ana Hatherly of the Pen Club, 2004. A poet, critic, and author of fiction, the author was born in Mexilhoeira Grande, Algarve in 1949. Having received a Ph.D. in medieval literature from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 1989, he has been responsible for critical editions of the Sonetos of Antero de Quental, and the Cancioneiro de D. Dinis. His poetry has received the Prize of the Pen Club in 1985, the Prémio D. Dinis of the Fundação Casa de Mateus in 1990, and that of the Associação Portuguesa de Escritores in 1994. His novel Por todos os séculos was awarded the Prémio Bordalo by the Casa da Imprensa. His fiction and poetry have been widely translated into Spanish, and some of his work exists as well in Italian, French, and English. Parts of this sequence of poems appeared previously in the reviews As escadas não têm degraus and Relâmpago, as well as in Literatura portuguesa e brasileira, ano 2000. The versions published here are said to have been altered in all cases. The author, born in Chacim, Macedo de Cavaleiros, Trás-os-Montes, in 1941, displays a certain ruralism in his early poetry, and in much of his fiction. He has written several historical novels set in his native region. In addition to fiction and poetry, he has published plays and essays.
