The author was born in Minas Gerais, Brazil in 1938. A diplomat, this is his most recent of several books of poetry.

Pacheco was born in Coimbra in 1937, and died in Lisbon in 1995. A journalist, he published his first volume of poetry, Cuidar dos vivos, in 1963; in 1991 a collected volume of poetry appeared, complete as of that date. Trabalhos e paixões de Benito Prada (1993; 5th ed., 1996), a novel set in Coimbra in 1949, when General Franco was to receive an honorary degree, in which Benito Prado, the protagonist, is a Gallego from Casdemundo, was the author's first and only only full length work of fiction. His only other published work of fiction was a novella, Walt (1978).

He has co-authored two musical spectacles with Raul Solnado, and directed two films. His plays, poetry, and films have been awarded at least five prizes.

Born in Viana de Castelo in 1923, the António Manuel [Gonzalez] Couto Viana is a theater director, playwright, translator (of Sophicles, Calderón de la Barca, Molière, and others), important poet and literary figure. The author, born in Chacim, Macedo de Cavaleiros, Trás-os-Montes, in 1941, displays a certain ruralism in his early poetry, and in much of his fiction. He has written several historical novels set in his native region. In addition to fiction and poetry, he has published plays and essays. The author, a native of Lisbon, studied as an artist under Domingos Rebelo and Luís Salvador Jor. His art work has been awarded several prizes, and is represented in museums, private collections, and commercial firms in twelve nations. A journalist who has worked at that profession more than 35 years, he was director of the reviews Arte e construção, Horeca, and EFE, and was editor in chief of Foco, Correio do Algarve, and Angular. He has also worked for the newspapers A capital, O norte desportivo, Gazeta dos Desportos, O Século, O Tempo, and Vida Económica. He received the prize for best reporting at TGV (Paris), and has published As palavras mágicas.

The author was born in Algueirão, 1945. He has written for various daily and weekly newspapers. His poetry is represented in the Anthologia poética florilégio I, as well as in diverse other publications. It has received literary prizes. He has had published two previous volumes of poetry, as well as a prose work, Portugália 75 anos, in collaborations with Duarte Ramos. As an artist he has had 22 individual exhibitions, both in Portugal and abroad, as well as having been represented in 156 collective exhibitions; his artwork is owned by numerous institutions.

The third of these, Afluentes lunares, was awarded the first Prémio Literário Afonso Lopes Vieira by the Câmara Municipal de Leiria in May 2000.
