The author was born in Praia, Cabo Verde, 1924. She studied in Lisbon, then lived 35 years in Lourenço Marques, until invited to return to Lisbon by Fernanda de Castro in 1974. The first edition of this book was self-published in 1962. The author's poems have appeared in newspapers and reviews in Brasil and other countries in Latin America. She has been a part of the Tertúlia "Rio de Prata," along with poets such as Ulisses Duarte, Couto Viana, Julião Bernardes, Alic Fergo, and Maria do Sameiro Barroso.
